Fulton County Officials Propose 12.49% Property Tax Increase, Public Hearings Slated for Resident Feedback

Residents of Fulton County are facing the potential for heavier pockets after officials tentatively approved a considerable bump to property taxes. The Fulton County Board of Commissioners has set the stage for a 12.49 percent hike in property taxes, eyeing a millage rate escalation to 9.87 mills, up from the current rate of 8.774 mills, according to an announcement from Fulton County’s website.

The wheels of government turned, inviting public opinion through hearings held in early July, with additional sessions slated for August. Concerned citizens had the opportunity to voice their perspectives on July 9, either in person or virtually through Zoom. Residents from all walks of life were affected—homeowners faced a potential increase of about $213.72 for properties valued at $562,500, while non-homestead properties with a fair market value of $875,000 saw a heftier increment of approximately $383.60.

Fulton County isn’t keeping these discussions behind closed doors. Additional public hearings are on the docket, scheduled for August 6 at the familiar Government Center Assembly Hall, and also for those unable to make it in person, through a video conferencing setup available online.
