Work-Release Inmate Accused of Burglarizing North Gwinnett Co-Operative in Clarkston

The Gwinnett County Police Department apprehended Lavan Hickman, age 38, of Clarkston, tying him to a recent burglary at the North Gwinnett Co-Operative based on investigative work and evidence collected from the crime scene and surveillance. The news came just weeks after the burglary reportedly took place on August 19. Gwinnett County reported that Hickman, who was serving a work-release sentence for past burglary convictions, left his designated facility and allegedly burgled the cooperative, stealing cash.

On the morning of the theft, cameras caught a male figure breaking in through a window at around 6:30 a.m. at the co-op’s address on 4395 Commerce Drive, making off with several hundred dollars, an act now credited to Hickman—his work-release status from the Gwinnett County Correctional Institute granting him the opportunity that investigators claim he seized upon for the burglary…
