COVINGTON — A woman charged in the hot car death of her daughter pleaded guilty in Newton County Superior Court Friday and was sentenced to 35 years, the first 20 to be served in confinement.
Ariel Jamiyla Osbey pleaded guilty to second degree Murder and making a false statement to relation to the Oct. 10, 2023 death of Imani Osbey, who was 13 months old at the time.
On that day, the defendant, who was 29 at the time and a resident of Clarkston, traveled to a Newton County residence on Ga. Highway 162 to provide house cleaning services. She brought Imani with her but chose to leave her in the vehicle while she went into the home. The defendant was in the home for approximately five hours while Imani remained in the vehicle in a rear facing car seat.
