Atlanta officials outline emergency plan as SNAP benefits set to run out

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Time is running out for lawmakers in Washington to agree on a deal to end the government shutdown and ensure thousands of families in Georgia have food.

SNAP benefits are expected to run out this Saturday, which means food banks will begin to feed people who have never relied on their services before.

On Thursday, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson and the CEO of the hunger-fighting organization Goodr will announce emergency assistance for people who are set to lose their SNAP benefits…
