ACLU says sheriff needs address ‘inhumane’ jail conditions

ATLANTA — The ACLU of Georgia is calling for Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen to address what it says are inhumane and unconstitutional conditions at the Clayton County jail.

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, the ACLU sent a letter to Allen after it received numerous complaints about conditions at the jail.

“Too many people awaiting trial languish in Georgia’s jails and Clayton County is no exception,” an ACLU press release read. “ Deplorable conditions at the jail include moldy and unsanitary clothing, mattresses, and rooms; people sleeping on dirty floors; substandard medical care; contaminated water; and insect infestations. Staffing failures have led to violent attacks.”…
