DeKalb County holding food distribution drives at multiple locations

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County is holding multiple food drive-thru distribution events as many families are still feeling the impacts from the government shutdown with Thanksgiving quickly approaching.

On Saturday, vehicles lined the streets near one distribution location, New Life Church as volunteers provided food items to families. Federal workers and SNAP benefit recipients are still experiencing the effects of the shutdown after President Trump signed the funding bill to end it on Wednesday.

Federal workers such as air traffic controllers have not received a paycheck since the shutdown began. Those workers were expected to receive about 70 percent of their missed pay within 48 hours of the government reopening, with the remaining 30 percent coming within the week…
