Anthony Eugene Gaines, 42, of Marietta, is accused of battery and attempted rape on Oct. 16 at 9:50 a.m. at the Family Dollar Store, 2051 Austell Road, Marietta, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department.
Gaines is accused of exposing himself to a woman and attempting to rape her. When he was unsuccessful, he placed a sleeping bag over the woman’s head in an attempt to suffocate her, according to the warrant. When the woman removed the sleeping bag, Gaines reportedly began striking her with his fists and feet. Gaines then fled the area on foot. The woman was taken to the hospital where she received stitches to her left eye, according to the warrant.
Gaines is charged with criminal attempt – felony; aggravated battery disfigure; and aggravated assault – intent to rape. He was arrested on Oct. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
