A massive 7-day operation in the Metro East earlier this month involving federal, state and local law enforcement resulted in the arrest of 63 suspects, the seizure of 2.5 pounds of narcotics and $15,000 in cash. The operation also helped in locating the suspect wanted for shooting a Granite City Police officer on December 5th.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office of Southern District of Illinois announced Monday the results of “Operation Safe Christmas” that covered five counties, including Madison and St. Clair, along with an operation in Atlanta, Georgia. In the middle of the operation earlier this month, a Granite City Police officer was shot and injured, so the task force immediately turned its attention to finding the suspect, which they did in less than 12 hours after the incident……
