Legal challenge puts Humphreys execution in limbo

After the state Board of Parole and Pardons issued a suspension on the scheduled execution of convicted murderer Stacey Humphreys, a Fulton County judge will determine whether the board is eligible to act on Humphreys’ clemency application.

Humphreys was convicted in 2007 of the 2003 murders of Cindy Williams and Lori Brown, two west Cobb residents and real estate agents. According to prosecutors, Humphreys used a handgun to force the women to strip naked and give him the access codes to their bankcards before shooting them both in the back of the head.

He was scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection at 7 p.m. Wednesday before the State Board of Pardons and Paroles suspended the execution Monday in an order signed by Parole Board Chair Joyette Holmes…
