Atlanta communities kick off Kwanzaa with drumming, tradition, and unity

STONECREST, Ga. — Today is the first day of Kwanzaa, which starts the day after Christmas. A non-religious holiday that celebrates African American culture.

Kwanzaa, a Swahili word meaning “first fruits,” was established in 1966 as a non-religious holiday designed to help African Americans reconnect with their African roots. New Black Wall Street Market in Stonecrest held a community celebration to kick off the holiday.
