DeKalb officials cracking down after clearing truck loads of tires

DECATUR, Ga. — If you’ve driven through metro Atlanta, you’ve probably seen it: piles of old tires dumped on vacant lots, industrial areas, even deep in the woods. DeKalb County officials say they’ve had enough — and they’re launching a major crackdown.

“Illegal tire dumping is a major issue across the metro Atlanta area and it’s not just unique to the state of Georgia,” said DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson.

The numbers are staggering. DeKalb announced they have recently removed more than 37,000 illegally dumped tires from neighborhoods, commercial corridors, wooded areas, and private land. If lined up end-to-end, those tires would stretch 20 to 25 miles, Cochran-Johnson said…
