Atlanta Rideshare Driver Shot on New Year’s Day, Police Seek Witnesses

Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault after a rideshare driver was shot in the back early New Year’s Day. The incident occurred at 562 Boulevard NE. It was around 1 am when police were alerted to the situation, with the male victim managing to drive himself to Grady hospital despite his injury, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Investigators are trying to piece together the details of the shooting, working to understand exactly what transpired during those late hours. The rideshare driver recounted hearing gunshots before realizing that his rear-view window had been shattered. It was only afterward he discovered he had been shot in the back and, in an effort to seek immediate aid, made the decision to quickly transport himself to the hospital.

“He stated that he was working for a rideshare service when he heard gunshots and his rear-view window shattered,” police said in a statement obtained by the APD. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether he was targeted or caught in random gunfire…
