Deadly Fungus Infects People In 27 States

(Atlanta, GA) – A deadly fungus is spreading in the U.S. The CDC says candida auris, known as C. auris, infected people in 27 states in 2025. It’s a type of yeast infection, most often acquired in healthcare settings, that’s highly contagious. It can cause severe infection which is tough to treat because most antibiotics are ineffective against C. auris. This superbug has turned up on bed rails, hospital equipment, windows, sinks and floors.
