SNAP fraud leaves Georgians hungry − even if they do everything right

ATLANTA, Ga. — Sheria Robertson followed Georgia’s Department of Human Services instructions exactly: she downloaded the “Connect EBT” app and locked her SNAP card when not in use.

It didn’t matter. Her food benefits were still stolen.

“I couldn’t believe it when I opened my thing and it said zero dollars,” said Robertson, a single mother who cleans houses and is starting a cat rescue. “I was one person in line, the person in front of me. I unlocked it, just that quick gone within a minute.”…
