Ted’s Montana Grill drops Marietta Square plans after online backlash

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A vacant lot on Marietta Square remains empty after Ted’s Montana Grill withdrew from its city-approved plan to build on the property following online criticism.

The restaurant chain announced it would pull back from the development due to community concerns about bringing a chain restaurant to the historic square rather than an independent business.

“Historically, our restaurants have been met with excitement and strong local support, and we rarely encounter negative sentiment,” the chain said. “In this case, however, early conversations on social media reflected concerns about welcoming a chain restaurant rather than an independent one, which understandably gave us pause before making such a significant investment.”…
