ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A winter storm system that impacted the Southeast on Saturday delivered significant snowfall across far northeast Georgia, with the heaviest accumulations concentrated in the higher elevations and mountain communities.
Clayton led the region with eight inches of snow, making it the hardest-hit location in north Georgia. The storm’s impact diminished as it moved southwest, creating a clear divide between the snow-covered northeast and the relatively snow-free metro Atlanta area.
Highest totals in the mountains and foothills
Communities in the far northeast received the most substantial accumulations:
- Clayton: 8 inches
- Tiger: 7.5 inches
- Cornelia: 7 inches
- Buford and Clarkesville: 6 inches
- Dunlap: 5.3 inches
- Mulberry: 5 inches
- Dacula: 4.8 inches
- Dawsonville: 4.5 inches
Moderate accumulations across north Georgia
A band of three to four inches of snow fell across a wider swath of north Georgia, including Madison, Jefferson, Flowery Branch, Hemp, Hiawassee, Gainesville, Monroe, Athens and Lexington — all receiving around three to four inches.
