Georgia lawmakers pushing bill to fine landlords who don’t give police contact info in emergencies

ATLANTA — Lawmakers heard a proposal today to give hefty fines to landlords who don’t provide their contact information to first responders. The bill addresses issues at troubled properties with absentee landlords.

Before it was demolished late last year, Forest Cove was a southwest Atlanta apartment complex with layers of trouble. But even less notorious sites with absentee landlords have vexed first responders – who often can’t access locked up areas to handle emergencies.
