Atlanta’s Best Pizza Is Hiding In The Last Place You’d Expect

Atlanta isn’t typically thought of as a great pizza city. It doesn’t have a distinctive style like other parts of the country, but its dining scene often quietly exceeds the expectations or limits set for it.

The sprawling metropolis is home to cuisines from all around the world, thanks to large immigrant communities found on Buford Highway and in Gwinnett County, and the result is a city with a vibrant, ever-evolving food scene, one that’s hard to summarize into a single, neat description—although many will simply reduce it to fried chicken and peach cobbler.

When it comes to pizza, Antico has long been a go-to in Atlanta, while other locals are loyal to Fellini’s. But some of the best pizza I’ve had in the South (after having lived for years in New York) can be found tucked inside a Mexican grocery store in Sandy Springs. Once under-the-radar, Pizza by Yandys is now an online sensation, but the hype is not overblown. It’s well worth the long lines you’ll wade in to get a slice.

Pizza by Yandys is a counter located inside Carniceria Los Pinos, a Mexican market in Sandy Springs. Although Sandy Springs is its own city, located in north Fulton County, it’s part of metro Atlanta, and is just a short drive (barring any traffic) or a MARTA ride away from downtown.
