Driver who hit 98 mph with BAC twice legal limit in crash that killed metro Atlanta high schooler pleads guilty

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 20-year-old woman charged in connection to a deadly crash that killed a Lakeside High School student nearly two years ago has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve time in prison on Tuesday.

Hannah Hackemeyer, who was 18 years old at the time of the crash, entered a guilty plea on charges of first degree homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, and possession of an open container of alcoholic beverage in passenger area.

Sophia Lekiachvili, 18, died from her injuries. DeKalb Police said that officers responded to Oak Grove Road near Kirkland Drive on Feb. 24, 2024, around midnight for a single-vehicle accident with three passengers.
