Former Lakeside High School student pleads guilty to causing crash that killed classmate

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A woman has pleaded guilty to causing a crash that killed one of her classmates and hurt another in 2024, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

Hannah Hackemeyer, now 20, was convicted of first-degree homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving and open container in connection with the February 2024 wreck.

Hackemeyer was sentenced to 10 years, with two years to be served under house arrest. Her plea deal comes with several stipulations, including an ankle monitor, a ban on driving, 240 hours of community service and mandatory participation in two Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim panels.
