19-year-old jailed for murder after deadly robbery in Union City denied bond

UNION CITY, Ga. — A 19-year-old who is behind bars for murder and other charges stemming from a deadly shooting that took place in February, according to warrants, was denied bond.

The document states that on Feb. 18, 19-year-old Kirkland Smith drove his gray, 2024 Hyundai Elantra to a home at the 6600 block of Dorian Drive in Union City with three other individuals. Smith waited in the car while the three other men went into a home to meet with the victim, 25-year-old Percy Mahone.

According to the warrant, Smith left his car in reverse while the three men went inside. While inside, the three individuals tried to take a gun from Mahone’s waistband. However, during a struggle, Mahone fell to the floor and was shot multiple times, resulting in his death…
