Metro Atlanta city names its first Black police chief

Say hello to the City of Stockbridge’s first Black police chief, Orrin S. Hamilton. The city recently hired Hamilton to lead its police department. He brings more than 30 years of public safety experience.

Hamilton is being recognized for his high-level leadership in metro Atlanta. Hamilton most recently served as the chief of police in Austell after a 27-year career with the Cobb County Police Department.

Under Hamilton’s leadership, department-wide training in Austell increased by 59% during his first year. He upgraded digital systems, vehicle cameras and body-worn cameras. He also merged the city’s 911 operations with Cobb County to improve operational efficiency.
