Georgia State Patrol warns of scam texts demanding payment

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is warning about a text message scam targeting drivers.

GSP says scammers claiming to be with the department are saying recipients have outstanding violations or fines related to their car. They often threaten enforcement or arrest and urge people to click a link to pay.

Even troopers are getting these messages.

GSP says troopers will not text to demand money, threaten arrest or ask you to click a link to handle official violation notices…
