Family of man killed at Marietta law debris disposal center suing for wrongful death

The family of a man who was killed at a recycling center in Marietta is suing two companies who run the facility and equipment, alleging they didn’t take proper safety precautions.

Amadeo Reyes Barrios was part of a work crew disposing of logs and branches at a vegetative waste disposal center off County Services Parkway in Marietta in July 2025. According to the lawsuit — which was filed May 14 in Cobb County Superior Court — Barrios went to untie a rope that was attached to a pile of debris an excavator was preparing to remove.

However, the excavator operator allegedly didn’t make sure the area was clear before lifting the pile of debris and lifted Barrios with it. A worker at the center allegedly saw Barrios get snatched up by the machine and tried to warn the operator, but it was too late. The excavator operator lowered the pile, crushing Barrios underneath the weight of the debris…
