- Aiken’s Makin’ in downtown Aiken celebrates its 50th anniversary this month with a variety of handcrafted items and free admission.
AIKEN — This month in downtown Aiken represents 50 years of creativity, growth and abundant pedestrian traffic, with boosters of Aiken’s Makin’ marking the massive Aiken Chamber of Commerce event’s 50th anniversary.
This year’s festivities are set for Sept. 11-12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, spread over several blocks. Vehicular traffic on Park Avenue and nearby is largely rerouted, and admission is free, in keeping with tradition.
The chamber of commerce’s description notes options that “range from pottery, glass art and wood creations to children’s clothing and accessories,” along with “jewelry, baked goods, homemade candy, sweetgrass baskets, and yard art, as well as many other unique handcrafted items from around the Southeast.”…
