AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 45-day proactive law enforcement crackdown in Richmond County resulted in 145 arrests, including suspects wanted for murder, assault, and other violent crimes, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The initiative is called “Operation Wildfire,” which ran from July 22 through Sept. 5. Deputies said the operation targeted violent offenders, criminal street gang activity, illegal firearms and illicit narcotics trafficking across the county.
Richmond County deputies are asking for help finding four people they want to question in connection with a 2023 homicide on Lumpkin Road.
Of the 145 total arrests, investigators reported 79 felony arrests and the apprehension of 30 suspected criminal street gang members. Deputies and assisting agencies also seized 54 firearms, four vehicles, $44,811 in cash, and large quantities of narcotics, including over a pound of fentanyl, 66 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and prescription pills…
