The Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration granted up to $13,610,908 to the State of Georgia on September 16. The money will pay for construction of the Georgia Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, which will be the state’s largest burial ground for veterans.
U.S. Rep. Rick Allen announced the award after years of pushing the project forward. “Funding for the long-awaited veterans cemetery in Augusta has now been officially awarded to the State of Georgia,” Allen said, per a press release. “To our veterans and their families in the CSRA and surrounding communities: the tireless work that brought us to this point is for you.”
