AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Another disruptive phase of Broad Street construction has begun, potentially affecting businesses in the heart of downtown that have been dealing with headaches for months.
Crews have now moved into the next phase of the Broad Street Improvements Project, working on the outside lanes between 10th and 11th streets, according to the city of Augusta.
Drivers can expect road closures and other traffic issues as more than 2,000 athletes arrive for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon.
This phase includes:
- Installing a new bike path.
- Pouring new sidewalk concrete along that block.
A representative from the city or contractor E.R. Snell will visit each business to coordinate the best time to remove and replace the concrete directly in front of their doors.
What this means for access
- While the existing sidewalks are torn out, temporary business access will be maintained using a compacted stone surface.
- Access may be temporarily limited during active construction, but the city says businesses will remain reachable.
- Pedestrians and drivers are urged to use caution, follow posted signs and obey directions in the work zone.
