AIKEN — The Aiken County Public School District says that proposed changes to Aiken’s Area 5 schools will bring expanded opportunities to students, but residents of the Town of Jackson believe the removal of their only school could have damaging consequences for its economy while erasing a large part of its history.
The district is considering building a middle school addition on the Silver Bluff High School campus to consolidate Jackson STEM Middle School and New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School.
