Richmond Co. Deputies respond to train derailment on Laney Walker

AUGUSTA (WJBF) – Richmond County Deputies on the scene of a train derailment in downtown Augusta.

Authorities say the incident happened on Laney Walker Blvd between 5th Street and New Savannah Road.

Upon arrival, Deputies observed there were no injuries or hazardous materials wasted by the derailment.

Due to the extent of damage to the tracks and the road, motorists should avoid Laney Walker at 5th St and New Savannah Rd as well as Nowell Rd for the next few days.

The investigation is ongoing.
