Moving the furniture: This retail chain is replacing former Aiken Furniture Co. location

The former mom-and-pop Aiken Furniture Co. store that closed last year could reopen as an Ashley retail furniture location that showcases a new design concept.

A 25,230-square-foot showroom is expected to open later this year in Aiken Furniture’s vacated location at 2535 Whiskey Rd., Ashley licensee Broad River Retail announced Wednesday.

The store will be Broad River’s fifth to feature the company’s new “7.0” layout, unveiled in Ashley’s major markets in summer 2023. The redesign includes “a contemporary open floor plan, an expanded sleep gallery and stylish interior design elements,” the licensee said in a prepared statement.

Headquartered in Fort Mill, S.C., Broad River owns and operates an Ashley store and outlet at 3435 Wrightsboro Rd. and seven Ashley stores and outlets in South Carolina. It also operates distribution centers in Fort Mill and Spartanburg, S.C.

Aiken’s proximity to Fort Mill is expected to offer “an enhanced customer experience with fast deliveries,” the company said.
