Inspirational biopic filmed in Augusta now on Netflix, quickly rising on most-watched list

Millions of people around the U.S. can now see pieces of Augusta on their TVs.

After spending about a month in theaters, “The Hill” is now on Netflix and is among the top-10 most popular movies in the U.S. on the streaming service.

The inspirational biopic filmed around Augusta released on Netflix mid-January and from Jan. 15-21 it was the No. 9 most watched movie of the week on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada, according to Netflix’s Tudum platform .

It tells the true story of Rickey Hill and how he fought against physical, mental and familial obstacles for a chance to play professional baseball. Hill was played by Colin Ford from “Supernatural” and “Daybreak” while his controlling father was played by Dennis Quaid from “The Parent Trap” and “A Dog’s Purpose.” Several local staples like Hildebrandt’s and Sno-Cap Drive in can be clearly seen in the foreground through out the movie.

“The Hill” premiered in Augusta on Aug. 25 had a limited, domestic release, raising about $7.7 million, according to Box Office Mojo . Critics on Rotten Tomatoes were not a fan, giving it a 44% and calling it “only intermittently inspirational.” But the audiences loved it, giving the movie a score of 97% and calling it a “heartwarming tearjerker.”
