Burke County holds Law Enforcement Candidate Forum for the election season

BURKE COUNTY, G.A. (WJBF)- Local leaders in both Burke and Richmond Counties gathered Saturday morning to discuss goals and ideas they have this upcoming election season.

Local leaders in Burke County held a Law Enforcement Candidate Forum– allowing candidates running for Burke County official positions to talk about matters important to them. Lewis Blanchard is running to unseat Sheriff Alfonzo Williams.

“Until you get out there and get amongst the individuals and learn what they’re going through and what their needs are, then you’re not going to be able to solve the problem…,” Burke County Sheriffs candidate Lewis Blanchard said.

The forum included candidates running for Burke County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Office.

“If we look for ways to solve it, whether it’s restorative justice or working with the victim and working with the individuals that committed the crime, those are things that we can do to help make it better…,” Blanchard said.

“We have worked hard to keep you safe; I’ve said to you that I’m not gonna do law enforcement badly and I mean that,” Burke County Sheriff Alfonso Williams said.
