JENNIE: GAP Ministries offers services, needs volunteers

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)– One of the local groups that helps address homelessness and lots of other issues is GAP Ministries. The folks who run GAP are committed to providing a one stop service location to help people seeking to reclaim their physical and spiritual well-being or to assist them with the extra support they need to maintain a stable and secure lifestyle.

Nomi Stanton is the Executive Director and she joins Jennie to tell us more about GAP and some of the needs and the volunteer opportunities you may want to know about.

Nomi Stanton: “So one of the things that we, what we try to do is continuously evolve to meet the needs of the community. And so a laundry room just seemed like a logical next step. And we have realized since our grand opening, which was December 4th, what a gift it has been to the community. Because I think one of the misconceptions about GAP is that we are homeless services, but really we’re 20% homeless, 80% working poor.

“So when people are in our line very, very early, it’s because they want to be able to go to our food pantry and then be able to get to work. So it’s really interesting. And so we’re seeing a lot of families that are using our laundry room. All people need to do is literally just bring their laundry came home.
