Augusta deputies find feces smeared in room where suspect called to report own kidnapping

An Aiken man was arrested recently after breaking into and getting stuck inside of a building in downtown Augusta, where he falsely reported an attempted kidnapping and allegedly smeared feces.

The 22-year-old Aiken man is charged with criminal attempted burglary, according to jail records.

Just before midnight on Jan. 23, the suspect called the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office to report he was locked inside of a building on the 600 block of Broad Street, according to an incident report.

Deputies went up to the 15th floor and found the suspect, who was on the phone with dispatch, according to the report. He said he was in the building after escaping from two people who were trying to kidnap him and the girl he was with.

A door with a glass window was shattered, according to the report. He also discharged a fire extinguisher and used it to hit door handles. Deputies also noted there was feces smeared across the room.

Once escorted downstairs, the suspect admitted no one was trying to kidnap him, but could not explain why he was inside the building. No women were found, according to the report.
