The shadow knows or does it

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It may bring a smile to the face when we hear from the fury forecaster.

“Why I like it? Because you know if Spring is going to be early or late,” said Alyssa Lewis.

There’s another reason why we have embraced Groundhog Day.

“Because of Bill Murray’s movie,” said Susan Gannon.

So, we kind of love Groundhog Day.

“Of course,” she said.

So here in the middle Winter, the coming of Spring is based on a groundhog’s shadow, so which is an early spring: shadow or no shadow?

“I used to know it all in my younger days, but now,” said William Burt.

“You’re not sure.”

“Not sure,” he said.

“Which one means an early spring: shadow, or no shadow. Do you know?”

“No, I’m not sure,” said Alyssa.

“Ah, you know, I haven’t paid that much attention,” said another man.

“He’s only been doing it 130 years.”

“But I haven’t been,” he retorted.

Now according the groundhog-ese, seeing a shadow means six more weeks of Winter. No shadow means early Spring, but even after all these years, we still get it mixed up.
