AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta has a lot of property, and on a lot of it there are flags…that can get noticed for the wrong reason.
“You just take a look at that flag right there, you see it, you take a look at it. There are flags like that throughout our entire county,” said Mayor Garnett Johnson.
A torn and tattered flag sticks out, something city leaders are planning to talk about.
“It is a big issue. We need to honor our city, our country, our state. I think you will see a deeper discussion on the flag issue,” said Commissioner Sean Frantom.
“At the mayor’s office we hear it all the time, ‘mayor there are flags that are torn, there are flags that need to be replaced’,” said Mayor Johnson.
It’s easy to spot a worn-out flag but not so easy to replace one. They cost upwards of $500 dollars.
“We got Daniel Field, they don’t have a flag and one of their representatives said ‘Sean, can you help get a flag?’ When I had a conversation with them, it’s like 500 dollars, he was like ‘Sean I don’t have 500 dollars in my budget’,” said Frantom.
