AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Former South Carolina Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley stopped at USC-Aiken Monday for a meet and greet with her supporters.
This comes after a brief appearance on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, but now her focus is back on her presidential campaign.
Haley not only came for a meet and greet, but to address a variety of issues in our country–one of those being education.
“Right now in America, only 31% of 8th graders in our country are proficient in reading. Only 27% of 8th graders are proficient in math. If we don’t do something and do something quick, we’re going to be in a world of hurt 10 years from now,” said Haley.
While she aims to improve the education system, she is also pushing for more security at our borders, and to eliminate the gas and diesel tax to help the middle class.
“We want to cut taxes on the middle class, and simplify the brackets. And we want to make the small business tax cuts permanent–they made them temporary, we need to make them permanent,” said Haley.
