Dr. Kay Kramer, an alumnus of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), has donated over $100,000 to the Margaret DeVore, M.D., Professorship in Anesthesiology. The donation was made through her IRA Required Minimum Distribution. The aim of Kramer’s contribution is to attract high-quality academics and professors to MCG. She also hopes her donation will encourage others to make further contributions to grow the professorship into an endowed chair.

The donation honors Dr. Margaret DeVore, Kramer’s mentor and a former MCG faculty member. Dr. Steffen Meiler, the chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, thanked Kramer for her generous donation. He stated it would greatly improve the training of anesthesiology residents.

Kramer started her medical career at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in the mid-1970s. She worked as a ward clerk and nurse’s aide to pay for her final college years. Initially studying German, she found her passion for the operating room during night shifts. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she trained and got certified in surgical technology at Piedmont Hospital.
