AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s trash day in Michael Yonesaki’s neighborhood, and he’s not happy with what he’s hearing about garbage.
“The value has to be there. We are consumers here within the county. We pay our taxes, so we expect a fair return on services,” he said.
City engineers are talking garbage services with Augusta commissioners and presenting a proposed contract for one of the city’s pickup up zones.
The contract would continue once a week with household trash pickup, but recycling, yard, and bulk waste would go to every other week.
“You’re going to have citizens say, ‘Which week is the every other week?’ So, you’re going to have bulk waste. You’re going to have limbs sitting out by the road for weeks at a time,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Brandon Garrett.
The recommendation from city engineers would be to not only reduce service, but it would increase the cost by $120 to $440 a year.

“We’re going to have to have tougher conversations on where we can go moving forward because at the end of the day, this is the worse service in my mind,” said Commissioner Sean Frantom.
