Highland Springs Middle School was not able to celebrate its grand opening at the start of the school year, but on Thursday, the new school finally got the welcome it deserves.
Shortly after classes were dismissed, dozens of community members met at the secluded North Augusta school for a ribbon cutting and tours led by some of the school’s students.
“We stand here today at Highland Springs Middle, or as I like to call it, the mountaintop retreat,” said Principal Paige Day. “It’s impossible not to be reminded of the Savannah River and the surrounding natural beauty of the CSRA. The design, inspired by the Savannah River, is not just a physical structure but a symbol of the dynamic and flowing knowledge that takes place here every day.”

The school teaches more than 700 students in a facility that is modern and attractive inside and out. Everything from the LED fixtures to the custom-designed cafeteria tables are indicative of a school that is less than a year old. One of its more impressive features is the media center, featuring about 10,000 books plenty of seating for work and comfort, and a news production room where students can do school announcements, TikTok videos, and other digital literacy lessons.
