Double conviction: Two Augusta gang members sentenced to life in prison for 2019 murder

Two Augusta gang members this week were found guilty of murdering an unarmed man in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison.

Tareke Collins, 23, of Augusta, on Thursday was convicted of malice murder, felony murder and possession of a gun during a crime, according to a news release from the Augusta District Attorney’s Office.

Davon Jones, 32, of Augusta, on Thursday was convicted of felony murder, possession of a gun during a crime, and pleaded guilty to possession of a gun by a convicted felon, according to the release.

Judge John Flythe on Friday sentenced both men to life in prison without parole, plus five years, according to the release.

The victim, Gerald Waldon, 22, of Hephzibah, was previously involved in a relationship with the mother of Collins’ child, according to the release. After sexually explicit content involving the woman was posted online, Collins arranged a time to fight Waldon near Walton Acres in Hephzibah.
