Mentoring program for children and teen open in Graniteville

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WJBF) — A new mentoring program for children and teens hopes to transform lives in the Aiken/Valley area. “So many times right now, young people are going through the greatest challenges of their life, but I wanna see them be the best them they can be,” Kidz Corner Director Kevin Robinson said.

The facility is located at 3 Hickman Street and offers a lot of space for classrooms, a computer lab, a kitchen, a dining hall, and activity rooms. “We’ll have plays, we’ll have arts exhibits from the kids. We’ll have concerts for the kids where they’ll be able to sing and show their talents. We may even have a little band here for the kids to be able to, so we’re gonna have a lot of performing arts things,” he added.

Mentors will spend time with five kids, teaching them about faith, math, and science and giving them reading help. About 15 kids signed up so far, with space for more. “When you get so many kids in a classroom, it’s hard sometimes to get the point across to the child,” he recalled. “Five is the number that they can, that they can have the relationship, the positive relationships that they need to with each child,” he added.
