Traffic, water service to be impacted in downtown Augusta as part of Greene Street project

The City of Augusta on Friday announced an upcoming intersection closure and water service interruption due to the Greene Street TIA Project.

The project will improve the segment between Fifth Street and East Boundary with drainage improvements, new paving, parking, bike lanes, sidewalks, handicap facilities and street lighting, according to the city’s website. The project has a projected budget of $12 million.

As part of the project, Augusta Utilities will be conducting repair work that will impact travel and water service in the downtown area.

The intersection of Greene and Fourth streets will be closed from Tuesday through Friday, according to a news release from the city. Traffic detour signs will be in place.

All residential and commercial customers on Fourth Street from Ellis to Watkins streets, and Greene Street from Fourth to Fifth streets, will have water service interruption on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the release.
