AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – “If you think that your school is in jeopardy of being closed you need to come out. You know you can start emailing your board members asking them not to close your school. You can email the offices down here there’s a lot of things that you all can do at this moment,” said Monique Braswell, activist.
The Richmond County Board of Education is working with consultants on a comprehensive plan for the next five years, the district hopes to maximize funding from the state.
Consultants are recommending several options to make sure each school has the most students, and the most funding possible.
Some of these options, if approved by the board, would have a huge impact on some schools.
“And when we talking about Glenn Hills, we’re talking about five years down the road who knows what’s going to happen within those five years, but at the end of the day we don’t have enough kids to keep 51 schools open We just don’t know where the are children going,” said Braswell.
