AUGUSTA, G.A. (WJBF) – This year’s address for the Medical College of Georgia focuses on a lot of new improvements for students and communities impacted by the services the school provides.
“We know the traditional experience of physician and patient, but this is– they’re really training us for the future which is great,” first year medical student at MCG Maanasa Javangula said.
Some of those improvements are actually expansions like a new hospital coming to Columbia County in the near future.

We’ve been looking for a hospital in Columbia County for about a decade now and Columbia County is blooming, it’s growing and so we need a hospital there– I think the county thinks we need a hospital out there so we’ll be able to serve those patients lout there…,” Dean of the Medical College of Georgia Dr. David Hess said.
But during Friday afternoon’s address, Dr. Hess emphasized the importance of telehealth within MCG.
“And now the exciting thing about Hospital in the Home– this will hopefully be the first place it’s done in Georgia, and that’s really important because a lot of people don’t want to come to the hospital, a lot of times they don’t have beds, they wait in the ED sometimes for. It’s a problem everywhere in the country…”
