Mother arrested after 4-year-old boy falls from moving car on Lewiston Road

A 4-year-old Evans boy was seriously injured after falling out of a moving car on Lewiston Road.

The boy’s mother, Jamey Dakai Kadhim, 38, of Evans, is charged with reckless conduct and no child restraint, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 11, deputies responded to Lewiston Road near the I-20 interchange for a crash with injuries, according to an incident report. When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned Kadhim was driving a 2021 Toyota Highlander north on Lewiston Road with her 4-year-old son in the left rear of the car.

Deputies noted the boy did not have a child safety seat or seat belt, allowing him to roam freely, according to the report.

As his mother was driving, he opened the left rear door while the car was moving and fell out on to the road after striking the left rear tire of the car, causing “serious injury,” according to the report. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Augusta.

As of Monday, the sheriff’s office said it did not have an update on the boy’s medical status.
