T.E.A.C.H. program bringing affordable housing to educators

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – There will soon be new housing opportunities for educators in Augusta.

Augusta’s Housing and Community Development department has been approved to fund four single-family units on Lyman Street.

“As we did our research in the Augusta area, we found that our educators and our teachers and faculty of the Richmond Board of Education would be the ideal clients for affordable homes, and I can personally attest to housing instability and trying to find affordable housing because I used to be a substitute teacher with the Richmond County Board of Education,” said Jeremy Johnson, Director of investor relations for vetted investment and acquisitions.

The funds from the federal government were passed down to the Housing Development Department and will be used for the “Tenured Educators Affordable Community Housing” or T.E.A.C.H. program.

“I’m just so grateful that I live in a city where Augusta Housing and community development are willing to partner and take those bold steps to address this issue. So that we can make sure that our educators who are helping to raise our future children have an affordable home in which they can raise their own children,” said Johnson.
