Data center proposed for site off Gordon Highway could create up to 220 jobs

Documents submitted to the Augusta city planners suggest an effort is underway to build a data center on 165 acres off Gordon Highway. It would include an initial $2 billion investment and could create up to 220 jobs for the Augusta area.

The campus will consist of six two-story buildings totaling 1.43 million square feet, according to planning documents. Each building would be about 239,000 square feet.

The current property owner, Georgia Vitrified Brick & Clay Company, has received approval from the Augusta Commission to rezone part of the land from agriculture to general business. Most of the property was previously zoned for business use.

Cal Wray, executive director for the Augusta Economic Development Authority, could not offer many details about the project because of non-disclosure agreements. But he said he expects the company planning the project to close in the next two months.

The company is operating under the name Eagle South LLC. This is not the same company that announced plans in 2022 to build a smaller data center on the site. Atlanta-based T5 Data Centers is no longer involved with the project, Wray said.
