Paine College restores employee insurance benefits

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Insurance coverage benefits are once again available to full-time employees of Paine College.

In a press release sent on June 27, the college announced that “a new broker team is working with the College to assist in providing expanded benefits.”

Medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, life insurance and short- and long-term disability options are included, as well as accident insurance, hospital coverage and critical illness coverage.

Last month, Paine College suspended benefits for faculty and staff due to troubles reaching an agreement with a provider for benefit coverage.

Dr. Cheryl Evans Jones, president of Paine College, released a statement regarding the announcement.

“The College sincerely regrets any interruption in insurance benefits for its employees, and expects the new insurance coverage to fit the needs of employees,” she said. “We are pleased that we were able to work through this matter together to arrive at a positive resolution. Though employee coverage was temporarily interrupted, we believe we are now in a better place with our insurance. This caused us to examine internal procedures to ensure that this does not happen again.”
